SINTEF Narvik is now a part of SINTEF, after Forte Narvik AS sold their shares in NORUT Narvik to SINTEF. The new name of the organisation is SINTEF Narvik AS, and it will be connected to SINTEF Community’s research effort within sustainable development of buildings, infrastructure and mobility.

In 2019 Norut Narvik became an independent institute, that did not join the fusion between NORUT’s other divisions and the research institute NORCE. The owners in NORUT Narvik at that point were the foundation Forte Narvik (66,64 prosent) and  UiT Norges arktiske universitet i Tromsø (UiT) (33,36 prosent). SINTEF has now bought Forte Narvik’s share, and becomes the majority owner in the company. This gives SINTEF a strong presence in the region. The ambition si to contribute to growth in industry through strengthening of commercially-directed Research and Development in the region.
